Speaker 1:The last few weeks we've been talking a lot about decreasing the things that hold you back and increasing the things that move you forward. This is a really powerful thing, especially this time of year, to be able to create space for yourself as things get kind of wild through the holidays. Really create space for yourself to have time for that self-awareness. Have time to ask yourself the hard questions, have space to reset and restart each day At the same time of putting your plan into action, which is what I know you do best as high-achieving women, and I have loved hearing what so many of you have been feeling going through the two-in-one 90 days of momentum daily planner and journal. It has been a labor of love for the last year and a half for me, and to finally see it in your hands is incredible. I've loved seeing the huge momentum that comes with taking the time to really dig into what you want and what's holding you back and refocusing your mindset towards that abundance and that growth that you know is possible. At the same time, you're making doable plans, you're making doable schedules and you're planning out your projects in the way that helps you just see the next right step so that you can start that big, scary, exciting thing that you know you want to do next. That's going to be a powerful tool taking you into the next year too, in 2024. So, if you haven't, definitely head to my website, coachamberbycom, and click on the two-in-one planner and journal and grab yours so you are ready for the new year, and today's interview is more of the same with helping you decrease the things that hold you back and increase the things that move you forward to the life that you want. Today it was really powerful because I invited Angelica Ventres to join me and talk about a topic that I know we're all going to relate to.
Speaker 1:As a woman, as a high achieving woman, as an entrepreneur, we so often can get in the hustle as much as we talk about here in the podcast to hustle less, work smarter, not harder. We're trying, right, we're making the effort to live that balanced life, but we are human and we get real excited about our projects. Sometimes, right, we get so excited about the new thing or the new project that we can find ourselves in that stressed, hustle state. It was so interesting today when I was researching what Angelica talks about and shares in her program before our interview today. I was noticing the correlation that she talks about so much between chronic stress and gut health and how that's going to impact our energy and, ultimately, our business and how we're showing up. And you know you hear me say it so often you are the biggest asset in your business and we have to be taking care of the woman behind the business and that is you.
Speaker 1:So today I invited Angelica Ventris. She has created a seven figure business herself and she knows what it takes to be completely aligned in your business and your health. And she is going to share not only how to increase wealth, but also increase energy and abundance and overall health so that you can truly thrive in all aspects of your life. She is the creator of fit for life program and a dog mama living in the heavenly Maui, hawaii. Angelica helps driven female entrepreneurs, executives and ambitious women who desired up level their health and wealth, and she's been featured in entrepreneur authority magazine and my fitness pal. And she is obsessed with guiding driven women to ship their mindset and their bank accounts while shedding those unwanted pounds along with the way, without ridiculous bad diets or crazy restrictions. And to this day, she has helped over 700 women, transforms their bodies and minds, all while finding true alignment in their personal and professional lives. I love how holistic minded she is and we learned so much in this quick episode, so I can't wait to jump in.
Speaker 1:["the Last Song of the Year"]. Hi, angelica, thanks for being here today. How are you? Hello? Good morning. I'm great, beautiful. Tell us about yourself, where you live, tell us about how long you've been there and what you do outside of work.
Speaker 2:Sure, so I'm originally from Long Island, new York, so you may hear an accent come out, but I went from New York to Cali and Cali to Maui. So I'm just a sun chaser. I will find the warmest place and live there. So we moved here because I moved my business online five years ago and we kind of just decided why not? I always I frequently visited Maui from California.
Speaker 2:It's an easy flight and I just love the energy here and the beauty of it and we're very outdoorsy. So what do we like to do outside of work? Hiking, I'm a road cyclist. I'm injured right now, but that is one of my loves. I'm just to be able to get into the mountains and ride Beach all day. Ocean all day, sand and a pile of hoarding. I'm not much of a surfer. I like surfing but I'm not good at it. But Beyonce likes to surf. But, yeah, anything outdoorsy, honestly, just anything outside. And my puppy loves to be, yeah, as much beach as possible. The ocean for me is like you know, some people go to the mountains or whatever Like. The ocean for me is like my calming, it grounds me. So yeah, Absolutely.
Speaker 1:I can totally relate. I love there's nothing. Even though we're in Minnesota, the farthest away from the ocean that you can get in the states, we I have to go there as often as I can Because there's just something about sitting on the beach and seeing just the opportunity and the endlessness of the ocean.
Speaker 2:Yes, the ocean is like massive, infinite abundance, because it just has that energy to it. Right, I just love it.
Speaker 1:Absolutely yes. Ok, I'm so excited to dig in today, and when I was reading more and learning about what you do, something really popped out at me, and that is that chronic stress and gut health can impact our business performance. And now that I have the attention of everyone listening, everyone's perking up because yes, yes, yes. So tell us, how is that correlated? How do those gut health and chronic stress, how does that impact our business?
Speaker 2:It's not something that we're thinking on a daily basis, like it's overtly happening, but it's one of those things. If you think about it. Our gut and brain are deeply connected. There's that gut-brain connection that they're continuing to study at a deeper level. So it is known, it is a fact.
Speaker 2:So if you're feeling symptoms that you may not even know are associated with your gut and a minutiae, you're feeling extremely fatigued, you're feeling a little bit depressed, you're feeling a little bit anxious, you're feeling brain foggy, you're feeling burnt out. Guess where that's coming from? That's coming from an imbalance in your gut. Not always, but a lot. 70% of our immune system maybe even more now they're discussing is located in your gut. So if your gut microbiome is off, of course it's going to affect your performance, how you show up in your daily life, your relationship with your kids, your relationship with your partner. Because if you're not feeling your best, high as self, as a business owner, you know how can you show up at the highest level, right? And then that affects your ability to make more money, attract more wealth into your world, maybe meet the right people right, have to be in alignment inside and out, right, feeling really aligned in your body and if your gut is off it really changes the energy of how you're showing up so many women.
Speaker 1:I speak to. They don't even make. Yeah, they don't even make the connection.
Speaker 2:They're like well, I'm just so tired, I don't have a lot of energy, I'm not sleeping well, and I'm like are you extremely bloated and do you have like a little bit of weight gain, fatigue, maybe skin irritation? There's so many symptoms of poor gut health? And they're like oh yeah, I have all that. It's like okay, it's time to work on your gut health and when you clear your brain and you get more energy, of course you're going to perform better in business.
Speaker 1:Right, yeah, that totally makes sense. And how does stress impact our gut health? Because, as business owners, we're all working as, even though here we're talking about how to hustle less and work smarter, not harder, but it's still it can be very stressful running a business. So how does that impact our gut health?
Speaker 2:Even when it's a lower stress time for us, we're still carrying all that weight. If we have employees, you know it's just. Entrepreneurship is its own ballgame and it does carry a different layer of stress than just a regular nine to five Like. Let's be real, anyone who's an entrepreneur knows that we love it, that's why we do it, we take that risk, but it comes with, like what we're going to talk about, a little bit more added stress. So just one really horrible, stressful incident is enough to disrupt the biodiversity in your gut microbiome. When you repeat that, just one incident, now think about your whole entire lifetime and all the stress you've been through and all the stress you've carried, maybe from childhood. Even things when you were in your mother's room affect your gut health. If your mother was really stressed out, right, and then you're born and then you already have a little bit of disruption and then life happens right and the toxins were exposed to, and then we take antibiotics and this medicine and that and we're sick, and then now we're 40 or our Role you are. Of course your gut has been impacted by high levels of stress. So anyone that I bring into my program I'm like we should most likely do a gut health protocol because everyone's had some type of trauma or something really stressful happen to. You know what I mean. So think about that.
Speaker 2:And what happens scientifically in the gut is basically the bad bacteria start to kind of spread and replicate and then the gut lining gets thinner, which then allows toxins to leak in. And when toxins leak in you can get things like Candida and leaky gut and SIBO and all these fun things. And that's when you start to. You may notice, like the whites of your eyes because, yeah, this is all fun the whites of your eyes become more yellow pin isn't as low. You may have like outbreaks, you may have more yeast infections or UTIs and you have the brain fog and the fatigue and Extra bloat and maybe a little bit of waking. So there's a slew of symptoms that come when that bad bacteria is just on overload. You know so that's why I'm managing stress. I'm not kidding, it's so important, not just for your business, before literally your life. Literally it's silent killer that, and it's really true.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and that's really helpful to.
Speaker 1:You're right, it is scary, but there's so much we can do and I that's so helpful. That leaves me Life and especially, like you said, it's a part of entrepreneurship. It is, and some. We need to be able to arm ourselves with tools to be able to protect our mindset and protecting our Schedule, but also protecting our bodies from this chronic stress. So what would be? You've mentioned a few symptoms too. Are there maybe like a few things that you can? Women can gauge listening today, to gauge where they're at with stress and if it is impacting their gut and, ultimately, their performance?
Speaker 2:Yeah, so let's look at some of the most obvious symptoms. I would say, like if you're extremely bloated, if, like anything you eat, at any of time of day, you're getting bloated, right. A lot of women walk around with this perpetual bloat and they think it's normal. That was me. It's actually not normal. Like you should eat and like maybe okay if you overeat or you had a little bit too much of something that has, like if I eat too much Spaghetti, squash that has a high water content, so I'll feel a little bit bloated after, but that doesn't mean like I'm damaging my gut, right. But just in general, like if you're eating Fairly healthy and you're like feeling bloated all the time, that's a sign that there's dysbiosis, which is basically inflammation in the gut. Then something we mentioned earlier was like just that extreme fatigue, like a little bit of brain fog where, like you're waking up and you're like even if you get a good night's sleep, you're still not feeling super clear. That's a sign too. I would say the fatigue, the energy, the bloat are some of the big ones, like some of the obvious ones. And then also like are you, are you going to the bathroom regularly? Are you constipated or do you perhaps have like IBS, like diarrhea you know what I mean. So paying attention to those symptoms, but there are so many so I don't just want to list one because everyone's bodies are so different.
Speaker 2:When I got Candida and leaky gut for me it was a weird stabbing headache and I don't get headaches Like over my right eye it felt like every morning I was waking up, I felt hungover and I was like something is wrong. And I went to a doctor and they were like and I was like, I have this really bad acid reflux that wouldn't go away and I'm not like eating acidic foods all day long. Right, they're like stop eating acidic foods. And I'm like no, that's not what it is, something else is wrong and that's why I decided to see a functional medicine doctor, get all these tests done and go deeper. And I worked with him for a year and that's what really propelled me deeply into gut health and I developed my own protocol because of what I went through, you know. So there's a lot of symptoms to pay attention to, so I think I listed out Do you want me to list more.
Speaker 1:No, that's super helpful and that makes sense too with the that it's different for everybody, and what I'm hearing to from you is it's so important to just be listening to our body and know, recognize, don't ignore those symptoms and that if there's something that feels off, definitely look into that and most likely it's coming from the gut. Most from a lot of things, most things.
Speaker 2:I love what you said, don't ignore, because I think what I said in the beginning too, is we start to accept feeling tired and feeling bloated and like, oh, I don't have energy because I have kids. No, I think, as women, we like accept that because we are doing so many things like you're running your business, you have a family, you're taking care of your partner, who's probably like another kid half of the time, right? So we're doing all these things and we start to think it's like a way of life, like we think it's normal. So if you are really bloated, if you are really tired, you know, pay attention to those things. Your body is screaming for help. If you're not sleeping, well, that's another sign, right? So there's all these things like pay attention to it, you know, tap it and reach out for help. Don't live like that because you don't have to. You could feel so much better.
Speaker 1:That's so, so good. Yeah, that's such a great reminder for all of us to be really listening to her body, don't ignore it. And one thing we talk about a lot here is decreasing the things that hold us back and increasing the things that move us forward. So what is the first thing that a woman can do to start making changes towards lowering stress and improving her overall energy, starting with the gut?
Speaker 2:Create some damn boundaries, so so what?
Speaker 2:I find with the problems that I speak to is they have no boundaries. They wake up, they check their phone. They're working from the second they wake up. They're working till right before they go to bed, right? I mean, that's how it is. If you run a business a lot of times, right? Or if you're very high in your career, they have no boundaries. People can message them all day long. They're saying yes to friends when they don't want to say yes to friends and they feel like they need rest. You know they're having drinks because they feel pressure right socially.
Speaker 2:Just create boundaries in your life. Create boundaries and create non-negotiables. By non-negotiables I mean things you're going to do every day to help you reduce stress. For me it's waking up and meditating. None of my messages get answered, none of my emails get looked at. Till I wake up, I meditate, play with my puppy a little bit, then it's time to work, right?
Speaker 2:So it's 7 30 am when we started this podcast. I've been up since 6 15 doing my morning routine. Now your morning routine doesn't meet and I think a lot I want to clarify. It doesn't need to be like an hour or even half hour. Just give yourself five, ten minutes in the morning. You're not into meditation, just try box breathing, try grounding if you're in a warm climate, not worth getting too cold, but you're fit into the earth and do do something to calm your stress right off the bat in the beginning of the day so you're less reactive. But I think the boundaries is really the the root thing of the right, because if you don't create those boundaries for yourself, you're waking up and you're not paying attention to for what your body really needs, so what your brain really really needs. So boundaries, boundaries, if boundaries yes, I love that.
Speaker 1:That was the first thing that makes me so happy. That's so true and I know so many listening can relate. I know as much as I talk about setting boundaries that I can run into that, back into that hustle again. I'm waking up and working when there's a lot of things on our list and you're right. Then we're able to not really pay attention to our body, we're not able to listen, we're not able to um, oh yeah, it's also calm our stress.
Speaker 2:Yeah we are in order for us to stress down, we have to get into parasympathetic right, the the digest, rest, relax state, right, but we're all operating in the sympathetic, the stressed out state. So the only way to do that is through various modes, whether it's tapping, whether it's meditation, whether it's grounding, whether it's breathing, whether it's going for a walk, doing a little, you know, yin, yoga, things like that. We really have to learn how to get our bodies into that state. If you want to heal your gut, if you want to lose weight, you can't do it in a stress state. So many women come to me. They're like I don't get it. I'm working out and I'm eating well and I look at their food and yeah, I mean they're, they're eating good enough, right, and their workouts are fine. But if you're consistently stressed, the weight's not going to come off, you know, and the bloat won't decrease.
Speaker 1:So yeah, yeah, and our bodies if they don't feel safe, it's going to hold on to it for sure. Yeah, absolutely, that is that's so true I am. This is so powerful and I feel like you've already given us so much to think about and look at, and even tools to be able to start just managing that, and I know everyone's going to want more and to learn more from you. So where can they find you? Tell us about what you do and how they can find you yeah.
Speaker 2:So I'd love for you guys to find me on Instagram. That's where I kind of I live. I live on Instagram, so at the angelic of entries. So just the word the, the word the and for my name, um, because weirdly someone else has my name, which is I think that's right, um.
Speaker 2:So we also we have a gut health grocery guide, which I think would be great. I could share that with you guys. So just send me DM, let me know that. You heard me on the podcast. We also have a five day challenge coming up in November. So that's five days of coaching with me and my team and we'll be going over good health and detail, sustainable nutrition, other right workouts for your age and your body, how to beat the bloat during the holidays, because we all know it's going to get crazy and this is a time of year A lot of people gain weight or you know, it's just it's a crazy time. So, dealing with stress during the holidays we'll be covering all that stuff. So, yeah, you can just find me on Instagram and ask me for what you want to say Hello, and I'll be happy to share everything with you there.
Speaker 1:Awesome. Oh, I can't wait. That's really fun and I'll make sure that we have all of those details in the show notes too for you guys to be able to contact Angelica and jump in that five day challenge and get all those details as well. I am really excited to hear what your answers are to these questions. These are some questions. We love to get to know you a little bit at the end of the episode, and I'm just so excited to hear what your answers are based on what you do too, because it's going to give a different, different perspective. So tell us what is your favorite way to self care.
Speaker 2:For me it's honestly just like laying on the beach, tan and going in the ocean. I mean, yeah, I love massages, I get acupuncture yeah, I love I get massages like once a month and I get acupuncture every week, so I think that is a form of self care Absolutely. But yeah, for me it's like just like I like to lay in the sun, play with my puppy and float in the ocean.
Speaker 1:Oh, that sounds amazing. Okay, I'm gonna have to book my trip to Hawaii now after this.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I love the conversation. Yes, it's very, it's ocean, franco, it's amazing.
Speaker 1:Oh, I love that. I know you mentioned grounding earlier and I love when I can. When it's snowing out, I can't. But the other four months of the year I can get outside and in between calls and always walking around barefoot in my yard. But there is nothing like doing that on the beach, nothing like it. Yes, I go on my yard when.
Speaker 2:I'm on coaching calls, but it's different on the beach. Yeah, I used to do coaching calls, but then I got really windy in Maui like the last two years, so I can't coach and call us on the beach because you can't hear anything.
Speaker 1:I love that, love it. You can do that, okay, are you?
Speaker 2:a.
Speaker 1:Starbucks girl, and if so, what is your order?
Speaker 2:I am not a Starbucks girl. I don't drink coffee anymore for God health. But if I do go to a Starbucks like I'm traveling, I you know in a pinch I do like to get the egg white bites because I think they're like a safe on the go option. And then I'll get like an ice cream tea, no sugar. Back in the day it was always like a pumpkin spice latte, but I don't do that anymore. Yes.
Speaker 1:I like anything Now we know for gut health ice cream, tea, no sugar, that's good.
Speaker 2:I want to minimize caffeine as much as possible for gut health. So caffeine has some benefits, but it's also inflammatory. So if your gut is already inflamed, caffeine is one of the worst things. And I know women don't want to hear that. But when I do a gut health protocol, that's one of the changes we make. You can switch to decap. The truth is about caffeine just real quick. If you've been drinking it for 20, 30 years, it's not keeping you awake, it's just a ritual. So you can just switch to decap or half-half and you'll get the same effect, same ritual. Okay, trust me, you'll be fine. I was a coffee drinker, I was a coffee. Coffee, you'll be okay, it's okay.
Speaker 1:That's so true. It's about having that warm cup in your hand in the morning. Yeah, it's just part of your day. Yeah, yeah, absolutely Okay. The last question we have for you is what is how do you stay motivated or get momentum going on those days that you're just not feeling it?
Speaker 2:I'm super type A, so I rarely have those days to be honest with my business. It's like I'll just wake up and I go. But there are days like that with, like my working out, you know, and I don't believe it's a thing of motivation. I just had built my discipline muscle. So my biggest piece of advice to women is to stop talking about not being motivated. I don't have the motivation, because motivation is like taking a hot bath the bath is hot, then it's warm, then it's cold. And how quick does that happen? Usually pretty darn quick, Right. So stop relying on motivation and start building baby, stepping up your habits and your routines and your identity from within to make those permanent shifts.
Speaker 2:I don't rely on motivation. I've kept 40 pounds of weight off for the last 13 years, not because I'm highly motivated, because I'm highly disciplined. And also on those days where I don't feel like doing the damn things, I remind myself of why. Why did I start my business in the first place? Why did I lose weight in the first place? Right, Remind yourself of why you're on. Whatever journey you're on, whether it's business, whether it's health, whatever it is spiritual journey like why are you on this journey? Your why is always important to be connected to if you need to ride on your whiteboard. But remembering that and then also just remembering that, like discipline is a muscle just like any other muscle in your body and it needs to be worked on day in and day out. Not motivation discipline.
Speaker 1:Yes, oh, that's so good. I loved it. I knew that you'd have great answers for those questions. They're so fun. That's my favorite one. So fun, I love it. Thank you so much for being here. I know we all learned so much from you and I will talk with you soon, thank you. Thank you for listening to this episode of Momentum Restart Podcast. I would love to hear what you think about it.
