I'm your host, coach Amber B. We're on part three of creating your ideal schedule working from home.

Speaker 1:

This summer, this episode came so timely. I've been trying to be very honest here, and on Instagram as well about how my summer schedule is going, and I knew this was going to happen. But let me tell you about three. Two or three weeks ago, I sat down with a friend at Lifetime, which is my special place. I have my Lifetime Fitness being able to go. My kids love it. They're in gymnastics, I get to go to Dance Jam, do yoga, and then when I have a friend there, we're able to sit down and have coffee and catch up. And she asked me how I'm doing and I looked at her and I was like I can't do this. I can't do this. It's only June. It was June 15th at the time, and I'm looking at the whole summer. I'm like I can't do both things. There's so much noise at home, there's so much happening at once. My brain feels like it's just short circuiting. I can't do this, and I asked her for help. She's working from home this summer too, getting her business up and running, and so we talked about doing a babysitter swap and supporting each other.

Speaker 1:

Now, when this happened, I'm going to walk you through some steps. On the most important step, part three, of creating an ideal work from home schedule, and if you've listened to the Momentum Restart podcast for a while, or if you've gone through the Momentum Restart coaching with me, or if you have the planner and journal you've heard this before and I'm going to keep saying it you can have the most amazing plan. You can know why you want to do it. You can have your perspective all lined up five years from now. You know where you're headed, you know what you want this summer. You've got your plan in place. Life is going to happen and you're going to have to learn how to adjust and not quit. We have to expect that life is going to happen. There's going to be hard days. When we learn to expect them. Then we don't give up and throw in the towel when something's hard and say this isn't working. Instead, we adjust, we look at it, we evaluate and we decide okay, what isn't working.

Speaker 1:

It wasn't that my whole schedule or ideal summer schedule wasn't working. It was one very important thing that I was able to talk through with my friend and realize what was happening. I needed some self-care time and I needed time that was quiet and for all the moms working from home this summer amen. There's so much happening around us and I was realizing that my schedule that I had created was great, and I talked about this last time, about when I was going to work. Here's what happened my work that was coming in, the projects that were coming in for me to work on, those types of projects needed me in my freshest state, where it's really quiet. I have to have quiet. When I'm being created, being creative, I can't be distracted, and so what was happening is I wasn't getting in that creative flow which was frustrating me, which was then burning me out. Now, instead of throwing in the towel and say the schedule isn't working, what I did is I was able to pinpoint where that was, make a small tweak, add some self-care into my days and ask for help.

Speaker 1:

So let's talk about your schedule today and things you can do when you have the greatest plan. You've got your ideal work schedule, your work from home schedule, and you find a day where you're like I just can't do this and I'm going to help you adjust and not quit so that you can finish the summer strong. Here we are. It's almost a month later when I'm recording this and I still love my schedule. I still love the schedule I put in place. I love that I adjusted and added in some more self-care. I love that I used all these tips that I'm going to share with you today. Let's jump in with these, okay?

Speaker 1:

So the first thing you're going to do if you start noticing that's the first step is noticing. If you start noticing some frustration, some resentment, some friction, instead of us going down the story of this just isn't working. Use that as it's like your red light. It just starts flashing and what you need to do is go investigate, spend some time, step away when you adjust and don't quit. That means you're going to evaluate what's not working.

Speaker 1:

Now there's two things that can happen when our plan isn't working. One it could be something happened that's totally unexpected. Maybe everyone got sick, maybe visitors are coming into town to stay with you and it's totally last minute. It doesn't matter if it's good or bad. There could be something unexpected that happened to your schedule, to your life, that you weren't planning on. Those things are going to happen and when that happens, know that there's not much you can do. Right. We then have to change our expectations on ourselves, change our expectations on your plan that you made, make some adjustments. You might have to do some bare minimum, and that's okay, because it's not always going to be like that. What I don't want you to do is keep pushing and putting that pressure on yourself and ignoring that red flashing light. Notice and evaluate. If it's something you have no control over that's happening, adjust your expectations, adjust your plan accordingly or ask for help.

Speaker 1:

Now, if it's something that's happening to you that is not the opposite, which is not the something that's out of your control, if it's not your circumstances there's the word if it's not the circumstances, if you're just realizing it's just not working, or I created this schedule but I just can't do it, or I just can't get up at this time, or I have this one task on my calendar that just doesn't seem to keep happening, or I'm still ending the day as frustrated. If it's not something circumstantial that's happening to you, like an external circumstance of someone needing you, then instead it's time to evaluate why and really dig in. This is what I do in Momentum Restart Coaching. This is what we work through in the Momentum Restart modules actually really help you pinpoint what it is that's happening. It could be a couple different things. I'm going to give you some examples. If there's something that catches you, go with it today. If you don't know, let's hop on a call, let's talk through it. That's why I'm here.

Speaker 1:

When you're looking at what's happening, it could be a couple different things. It could be that you have created a plan for yourself that is unrealistic. You could have set up your days, maybe time blocked them with every single minute planned and forgot that you actually need to eat lunch, or that you actually need an hour of quiet in the afternoon, or that there's no way your kids are going to just entertain themselves for a certain amount of hours while you're getting a project done that you put on your calendar. So maybe the plan you made was unrealistic and that's why I love 90-day planning. If that's where you're at and you're realizing, okay, the plan I made just isn't fitting my life, it's not fitting my kid's life, it's not fitting my work life. I'm burnt out, I'm frustrated.

Speaker 1:

Reach out and let's talk 90-day planning together, because I can help you see and uncover what works for you. Where are you motivated? Where are you not motivated? Where do you need some support? Where do you thrive? And I'm able to help you piece that puzzle together in a way that feels really good to you, not just on paper, but feels good to you in the day to day.

Speaker 1:

So it could be that it's unrealistic. We've got a solution for that. It could be your mindset. It could be your mindset in that there's things that you want to do this summer. Maybe it's some goals that you've set for yourself and you've been trying to do those goals. Maybe it's a health goal. Maybe it's getting more workouts in or more strength training in. Maybe it's that you're running a business and you're wanting to reach out to more people and expand your network. But there's this task or this thing that you put on the calendar at the beginning of the summer because it was so important to you and you know that you want this, but you just can't get started. Or you started and you just can't follow through. First things first, if it is mindset one, give yourself grace. That happens to every single one of us and again, this is just a noticing time where you can use it as it's your red flashing light. This red flashing light is going off showing hey, there's something you need to work on here and once you address it, everything else is going to be more smooth, your road's going to be smoother Something that I put together in the 90-day planner and journal if you haven't open it up.

Speaker 1:

And then some of the first few pages are all about planning. I walk you through my 90-day planning process and give you a lot of resources to do it yourself. And then I decided to add I knew it was an over-give and over-deliver, but I wanted to do it because I know that we need this. I decided to add I knew it was an over give and over deliver, but I wanted to do it because I know that we need this. I wanted to add a page of affirmations. Now, these affirmations are really special in the 90 day journal and planner because there's about 20 of them, I think, because these are all the ones that I've heard are needed the most through all of my years of coaching. So most likely, most of these are going to hit home. Most of these are things that you need to hear about yourself, say about yourself and retrain your brain to believe about yourself. Most of these things are for you, and if you're hitting this block and you're not able to follow through on something, a lot of times it's because of a mindset block, and if you're unsure about where, that is why that's happening again. That's why I'm here. That's what I can help you work through.

Speaker 1:

There was a client once who really wanted to work out. She knew why, she knew what she wanted to do with her workouts, she knew why she wanted to increase these workouts, but she just couldn't seem. And she'd done it before in the past, but she just couldn't get started. She just couldn't do it. And we've all been there when we have this goal that we want to do, and we have it on paper, we know why we want to do it, we got a great plan and we're going to go start, but we just can't get started. And when we were able to really dig into, okay, what's happening, what's the mindset behind this, we really uncovered that she was told and believing that there is a certain way we have to work out. And if you're in the health and wellness industry, this is really common.

Speaker 1:

I went through this when I was a health coach years ago, because things have worked and one thing working where you're okay, it only works if I do what I've been told and what I'm coaching, that you forget. There's a lot of other ways to move our body too, and a lot of other ways that you enjoy, and so we removed the mindset that it had to be a certain way and that she was allowed to have fun with it. About how to increase your neuroplasticity, which is going to help you and support you in those affirmations too, so that you can remove roadblocks, you can decrease the things holding you back and increase the things that move you forward. Okay, so we're still talking about these setbacks and things that could happen. It could be unrealistic expectations, it could be a mindset block, and another option is it could just be a small tweak that has to be made, a 1% shift. We adjust and we don't quit.

Speaker 1:

When I was telling my friend honestly, telling her near tears, saying I can't do this, I can't stay home this summer, I can't work and do everything. No, I couldn't do it the way that I was doing it that particular week because what I was forgetting was the small adjustment I had to make, I rearranged my schedule. I make sure I get my creative time done in the morning or late at night when it's quiet. I asked for help, not only from my friend, where we were able to babysit swap a little bit, but I was also able to share that with my husband too and tell him I need to be able to work these hours this summer and that it's going to look different in the fall, but in the summer, in order for me to be home with the kids and to have this life that we want for our family, I need to be able to work these hours. We have to ask for help, we have to change our expectations and we have to adjust our mindset. That's how you adjust and not quit Notice it, evaluate it and then ask for help, change your expectations and adjust your mindset.
